PRFI Site FAQ
Welcome to the FAQ section of PRFI!
The FAQ is here as a resource for site visitors to obtain answers and info without emailing me, which generally makes things easier for both of us. Before emailing me asking a question, please check to see if it's answered here.
Please also be aware that this FAQ isn't a Power Rangers info section.
GENERAL INQUIRIES
Q. Can you tell the Power Rangers something for me? Do you know the Power Rangers? Have you ever met (actor)? What is it like being a Power Ranger?
A. Sorry guys, as much as I would like to be a Ranger, and believe that I have the ability to morph and to even up the score, I am not the Rangers, do not personally know any of the Rangers or actors that portray them, and I can't begin to guess what it's like to be one. If you actually want to contact the Rangers, see my contact page for a general address you can *usually* get a response from.
Q. What's the name of (Certain Ranger/Villain/Zord/Weapon)? What happens in (Certain episode/series/arc of series)? Who is (certain character)?
A. Because this isn't actually a Power Rangers info site, I don't have any on-site information I can link you to, but because info is readily accessable on any other number of PR sites out there, please check my links page or do a search on the object of your question before emailing me. If you do decide to email me asking "Who's the red ranger?" or some such question, I probably will be of no help to you.
Q. How/when can I audition for the show? Does Saban need any (writers/etc?) I have a really good idea for (-----), how can I tell Saban?
A. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine on the topic of auditioning for the show, I know they hold auditions in the Los Angeles area and they're looking for young adults 18-25 with martial arts skills/acting ability, but as for when, I simply don't know. I also do not work for Saban, and the odds of selling him a fanfic idea are nearly nonexistant, because while Fox Kids does pay a deal of attention to what fans say (I.E., they brought Rita back in part because of comments on newsgroups) the series usually follows the storyline of the Sentai series the Power Rangers are derived from and thus, ideas related to bringing back former teams/Zords/ Suits or adding more teams/villains/complex storylines are not likely to appeal to them at all. Jobs at Saban are not my specialty, sorry.
Q. Where can I find (toys/books/clothes/memorabilia/props/suits)? There's a problem with the (toy/memorabilia) I bought, what can I do? My son really loves Power Rangers, what should I buy for him?
A. Probably the best place to find PR toys and other goods is your local Toys R' Us. Really, it's that simple. If you're looking for something specific or from an older series, I would recommend searching on Amazon.com or ebay, usually you can find relatively inexpensive items from MMPR-TF, as well as Sentai items, on Ebay with almost no effort. ^_^ I can not begin to guess where you could get items actually used on the show, sorry. Check Ebay first, rare items do occasionally pop up. Like once, I saw a skydiving suit that this bowling team used in the movie, as well as Lerigot's hand. I'm not kidding! Because I do not work for Bandai or any other company that markets the products, nor am I affiliated, the only thing I can recommend to do if something goes horribly horribly wrong (Such as the Quantum Ranger Toy's head falling off and exploding or something) is to visit Bandai's site and contact them from there. (Also, always save your receipts.) As far as the "My son really loves PR, yadda yadda, what would he like?" Well, because I am neither a 5 year old nor am I a boy, I believe you would be better suited to actually ask your son/grandson/little bro/etc, or, failing that, check out toysrus.com for a relatively current list of age-appropriate toys.
Q. Will you sell me (memorabilia/videos/music/etc)? Do you want to buy (memorabilia/videos/etc)? Do you have listings on Ebay?
A. Nope, my stuff isn't for sale. If you email me asking if I will sell you something, the answer will be no. I don't do business outside of Ebay, and even on Ebay I don't sell things. Most likely anything you would be interested in buying I don't even have anyway, and since I don't advertise anything I own on my site, then there would be no reason for you to even ask if I'll sell you something. As for if I'll buy something from you, if your listing is on ebay, then I will look at it, but I only buy things I'm interested in. If you have a list of things off ebay for sale, thank you anyway, but I'm not interested. I don't have listings on Ebay.
Q. I wrote to so-and-so and they never wrote back! Where can I write to the classic MMPR actors?
A. A very common occurance, unfortunately. Saban is notorious for not forwarding mail to previous actors, regardless of how popular they were. People who have visited the studios have commented on the abundance of unopened mail that has yet to be read by its proper recipient. There is a much greater likelihood of getting a response from actors on the current series than from previous series just for that reason. If you wrote to someone and did not get a response, it probably has nothing to do with them not writing back, they more than likely haven't received it or are too busy. I'm also sorry to say that I don't know where the actors from classic MMPR can be contacted. I would recommend checking my links section for sites on the actors, or do a search on google for them. Unfortunately, very few former Rangers/villains/etc leave forwarding addresses.
SITE INQUIRIES
Q. What is this site about?
A. This site is here as a resource where Power Rangers fans can find music, videos, fanfiction, art and other fun stuff! I put it together after many months spent on Napster trying to download the entire PR: The Album CD and about a year frustratedly looking for video clips and reaching dead link after dead link. Why should PR fans have to put up with that? They shouldn't, and that's why I put this site up originally.
Q. Who runs it?
A. That would be me, Chibi Cel-Chan, and only me. ^_^
Q. How long has your site been around?
A. PRFI first went online in Spring of 2001. I'm not sure on the exact date.
Q. Where did the MP3/Videos/Gallery go?
A. As I stated in various locations, every piece of media I stored on this site has been wiped, possibly by inactivity, probably by the fact that it violated copyright laws or used too much bandwidth. It's basically a sordid game of "choose your favorite excuse", because at this time there is nothing I can do. I have no intention of purchasing a domain, most other sites don't allow for offsite linking or only provide so much webspace, and finally, I actually don't even still have many of the songs in mp3 format, nor do I still have the videos. it's been a long, long and negligent time for this site, and I sincerely apologize.
Q. Great. How do I get my mp3s now?!
A. The short answer would be "Buy the CDs", but I do know that this is not an option for everyone. I am still a staunch advocate of free-for-all music, and I know how harrowing the ordeal of looking for that ONE song is. There are various places you can search for the mp3s, however. After the launch of this site, several other sites went online boasting of their mp3 collections as well. Check them out first of all. If you come up empty, WinMX (www.winmx.com) is an excellent file sharing program. Many people have extensive collections that you can browse and with a little luck find your favorite song in. If this is still leaving you craving something, then you can go ahead and email me at celaran7@earthlink.net, or AIM me at chibicelchan. I will see what I can do.
Q. Why the 3 exclamation points??
A. My fic series, PR!!! and PRE!!! both used them, why oughtn't the site that *kinda* brought them to the public? Besides, I like exclamation points.
Q. What does the "Promises in the Dark" in the site title refer to?
A. Because naming versions of sites after songs is a common practice, the "Promises in the Dark" refers to an old Pat Benatar song of the same title that was a very essential piece of my Power Rangers!!! and PR Ecstasy!!! series' soundtracks, and probably one of the best Non-Japanese rock songs I ever heard.
Q. Why isn't the MIDI on the main page "Promises in the Dark"?
A. Can YOU find a MIDI of the song? =( Actually, there is no midi on the main page anymore.
Q. How come when I come to the site, all these dumb pop-up ads appear?
Why do I end up bookmarking pop-up ads?
A. Because this is a free site hosted by Tripod, they need to use ads to pay for the cost of the webspace, etc. The pop up ads can be closed (they aren't as ruthless as some). The reason why you may end up bookmarking the pop-ups is because the URL of the pop-ups will appear in the browser bar and your favorites folder may think that that's the page you want bookmarked, such as AOL, which bookmarks according to the address in the browser bar and not the top page. The way to remedy this is either to manually put in the site's URL into your favorites folder, or right click inside the page and select either "Bookmark this page" or "Add this page to favorites". One note, PLEASE only bookmark PRFI's homepage. It eliminates confusion and inconvenience. Believe it or not, there are still people emailing me about PRFI version 1.0, which hasn't been updated since summer 2001 but still exists.
Q. What's your site's most popular section?
A. Got me. Which section do you like the best?
Q. What's your site's least popular section?
A. The FAQ? ^^
Q. What the hell is up with that Blake Foster thing?
A. I thought we looked alike. And then I found out it went even further. And then it got scary.
Q. Why doesn't your site have PR information?
A. You know what's REALLY funny? Well, you probably don't care, let me just answer the question. ^^; The reason my site doesn't have PR information (Ranger/ actor info, Villain info, timelines, Zord info, etc, etc, etc) is because basically every other PR site out there has some type of info site, and most have pretty much the same thing to say. I don't really see the need for yet another comprehensive information source on the net, because there are already so doggone many! This site already has somewhat original content, there really isn't any need for a bunch of profiles that anyone can find on any other site out there.
Q. OTHER sites have both media AND Information!
A. Other sites have domains, too. :P
Q. What do you have on (Certain page)?
A. It's pretty self-explanatory.
Q. There's something wrong with this (page/file/etc), what should I do?
A. Be advised that I'm probably aware of it, it's most likely gone down due to long periods of inactivity or who knows what. I'm going through the site, deleting dead links, so you can go ahead and email me to let me know if you like, but I probably already know. XB
Q. I need help making a site!
A. Me too. :(
Q. I mean, can you give me some pointers on how to make a site?
A. Oh, sorry about that.. although, to be honest, I really can't. This site here is actually html-free, put together on a program called Trellix Web, hosted on a webpage host called Tripod. Trellix Web was once available to build sites on Tripod and Fortunecity, but unfortunately has been replaced by a rather dodgy shareware program that expires after 30 days.I am fortunate enough to still have an old copy of it on my computer, but it can no longer be downloaded. I wish there was something I could do about that, but it seems if you want to build a site these days, you need to use HTML. I wish I could recommend a good webspace provider, but I'd be a bit out of my league to do such a thing. I apologize.
Q. Can I put up your fiction on my site?
A. Actually, I would prefer that you don't. That's why my fanfiction archive is here, and any fiction of mine that I want on the web is already up there. You can LINK to my fiction section, as I recommend people to do with Ultra Symphony (and which is also the only case where it's a good idea to bookmark a page that isn't the main page.) As for the fiction of the other authors here, you'll have to ask them, I can't speak for anyone but myself.
Q. Can I use your fanart on my site?
A. For a fanart section, and if I'm given proper credit, then sure. For graphics for your site, backgrounds, to modify, color, or claim as your own, absolutely not. The same goes for other artists featured here.
Q. Can you write to/email this person for me?
A. There isn't any reason for me to. If you need anonymity, sign up with hotmail. After 60 days they'll delete your account if you need it gone.
Q. This site sucks! How come (section) doesn't work?!
A. Yeez, calm down! I'm really sorry you're having a bad day, especially if somehow my site made it so much worse for you. If anywhere on my site, something doesn't work, you'll most likely notice that I have stated on either that page itself or the updates section (or even the main page) the reason why it doesn't work/isn't up. So please, actually read through my site before emailing me and shooting your mouth off.
Q. Your fiction is too raunchy! I'm reporting you to Tripod!
A. Wow, do you need a hobby. Do you bounce around to every site on the net that has "raunchy" fiction and tell them that you're reporting them? Find something constructive to do, like reading my fiction information page, because you'll see that I explain there that none of my fiction is grounds for my site to be removed.
Q. I can't read your page, the background is too distracting.
A. It shows up fine for me. I use heavily contrasting text colors so they will be more visible, and even on a white background (which this mostly is), the text shows up fine. Try adjusting your monitor color settings. As for the background being distracting, I think that the last PRFI background (magenta with weird dottie things) was much more distracting, this is only flowing purple lines..
Q. Your (section) is so stupid!
A. Please present your grievance to me in the form of a question.
Q. Why is (section) so stupid?!
A. For whatever reason you've deemed it stupid, I guess.
Q. You suck! I hate you! I want you to take this stupid site down!!
A. Okay, I will. I'll take my site down just for you, because you told me you don't like my site. Your opinion is SO important to me that if ONE person says they hate my site, it's coming down. Watch me. Sit in front of your monitor screen, I'm seriously doing it. Right now. Here it goes! Wait.. huh, that's something. It's still here. I guess that means everything I said is a lie! As far as I know, nothing on this site that I have said comes across as racist, sexist or inflammatory, I mean, there are so few places where I even voice my opinion whatsoever that being able to manage derogatory comments in with the few things I say would really be some feat. About the only reason I can think of for anyone to hate me is the fact that I *gasp* promote the distribution of MP3s and video clips and unauthorized material and *gasp!!* I can't even go on. As far as that goes, yes. I promote the distribution of those evil evil mp3s that take money away from that GOD Lars Ul*RICH*. If you don't like it, dang, what are you doing on my site? The reason I do such a horrendous, sinful and evil thing is simply because it is truly NONE OF THE ABOVE. Taking a few precious dollars away from multimillionaire recording artists hardly constitutes something you should burn in hell for. Never once did I claim to own any of the mp3 files on my site, nor do I claim rights to them or take any money when you download them, so if you have a problem with my having them on my site, I really can't sell you the CD instead. If you absolutely hate me for my fiction, art, policies, layout, or other ridiculous reasons, all I can say is, "Grow up!" Please. If you choose to email me regarding any of the atrocities I commit on my page, be assured I will put the email on my site for all to see. Hee hee..
Q. You're really cool/Your site is awesome/You want to be friends?
A. Thank you so much in advance for any kind comments you may send my way, it's always so nice to hear! If you're interested in getting to know me better, I'm flattered. :D
Q. I really want to show you something, give me your mailing address and I'll send it to you!
A. Wow, uh, NO. If you can't find some means of scanning it in or taking a picture or anything, then sorry, I guess I'll never see it. That's probably too bad.
Q. I can't download this file, will you send it to me?
A. I have actually been known to send people files via AIM, so I won't say that I won't do it. BUT, I usually will recommend that you look other places first. And, I would ask that you be polite. If you are looking for a certain file, or I have concluded that a certain file can not be found anywhere else, and I *still have it*, I will do my best to hook you up with it.
Q. Do you have (this file)?
A. Ask, I'll let you know.
Q. I saw a link to your site at (wherever it was seen), and I think they're really stupid for putting up the link!
A. Personally, I think you're really stupid for complaining to me about something this inane. I also don't agree with you.
Q. Can I submit fanart/fiction/rumors?
A. Absolutely. See the respective page (s) for submission guidelines.
Q. I saw something in rumors, is that REALLY true?
A. If you saw it in the Rumors section, then, absolutely not. Nothing in the rumors section is true, except what I may have overlooked at one time or another.
Q. You rip off (certain site) in (this section)!
A. If it's a site I've heard of, and have been inspired by, I will admit that I do use ideas here that may have originated elsewhere. But I don't honestly RIP OFF other sites, in either content or.. I don't know what else there could be. If you're saying I ripped off someone else's layout, I think the Frames and either centered or left-aligned text is a fairly common layout, and can't really be traced to one particular site that we're all ripping off (If you can even "rip off" text alignment..). As for the ideas I use here, any places I have been inspired by are credited (sometimes in numerous places) and linked to. I think the original content here more than makes up for any little indiscretions I may commit. But if you're going to tell me I rip off either a site I've never been to, or one that went offline in 1998, or one that I plain have never heard of, I can't take any responsibility.
MISCELLANEOUS
Q. Who is your favorite Ranger?
A. My all-time favorite ranger is probably Cassie Chan, the pink Turbo/In Space Ranger. After her are Trini Kwan, the Yellow MMPR Ranger; Adam Park, The black/green MMPR/Zeo/Turbo Ranger; Karone, the pink Lost galaxy Ranger; Kendrix, the first pink LG ranger; Kai, the blue LG ranger, and Trip, the green TF Ranger.
Q. Who is your favorite villain?
A. My favorite villain is Ecliptor, then Astronema. Rita, Zedd, Rito, Nadira, Trakeena, Villimax, Deviot and Divatox are also faves of mine.
Q. What is your favorite PR episode?
A. There are a few. My all-time fave is "The Rangers' Leap of Faith" from PRiS Season 2, with a few other PRiS episodes and MMPR season 3 episodes rounding it out.
Q. What's the story with your weird fiction? Who are these other rangers/people?
A. See the Fan fiction section.
Q. Did you do (certain other site)?
A. That depends. I've been online since August 24, 1999, so any sites put up before then, no. My first site attempt was done in September 1999 and was on Xoom and has since been deleted. Just was well, I didn't know ANY HTML so all my text was in one huge jumbo paragraph with no pictures or anything.. Ugh. My second site was in February 2000 and hasn't been updated since, it's called "Lula Universe" and it's just plain messed up. My third site and first official PR site is called "PRiS Forever" and is my second most successful site (about 2000 hits), although it hasn't been updated since May 2000. My fourth site is called "The Lightspeed Flashpoint" and I have no comment on it except it did give me some of the rumors for the LSR section. The original URL for PRFI was temporarily enhabited by what was to be an anime site, "Soy Japan", but that didn't last up a short hill and was long gone by December 2000. PRFI has existed on 3 different URLs since March or April 2001. I also have a site that houses my Ultra Symphony fiction.. hasn't been updated in awhile.
Q. That was you? That damn site sucks!
A. Hey! For not knowing anything about HTML and working on the most intense sugar high in history (this applies to any and all of the above mentioned pages) I'd say I did a pretty good job. Except with TLF. That site is just sad. If you're referring to Chibi Cel-Chan's madhouse, that's very rude and you should apologize. NOW.
Q. Will you put up a site for me?
A. Yeaah.. suuuuure I will. Yes, it'll be a right fine site, too. It'll have a big happy and interactive "404 File Not Found" up at the top, and no content. You'll just LOVE it! And I was SO happy to do it!! :_D
No.. yeah, that's sarcasm. Meaning, no, I won't put up a site for you.
Q. How come you have Ultraman fan fiction up? This is a Power Rangers site!
A. I'm delusional and can't tell the difference between the two! DUH. (*).(*)
TRIPOD AND BANDWIDTH
Q. What is bandwidth?
A. A lot of sites have made references to freeways, electricity paths, etc, to explain bandwidth, being that it's kind of a tricky concept. I'll try to explain it the best I can here. Servers give each site a certain amount of bandwidth, which is basically the path data travels on. The path has to be able to handle heavy traffic to websites. Traffic includes hits and other forms of data transferring (downloading files, loading pictures, etc.)
Q. How does bandwidth get used up?
A. Excessive hits do it, when a bunch of different computers try to access the same data. Excessive downloads of files do it as well, which is why most people ask you not to directly link to their files.
Q. How come when I try to open your site, some error screen comes up saying it used too much bandwidth or some crap?
A. This has actually been a recurring problem for quite awhile among Tripod-hosted pages. Our affiliate, Rangernet has the same problem. However, neither of us are what you'd call bandwidth hogs. Upon checking my bandwidth, it showed up as using 700 or so KB. Out of 1 gigabyte bandwidth, that doesn't seem to add up. About all I can recommend you do is:
If the site doesn't load right away, don't hit refresh. Wait 15 minutes, and try again.
The MP3s are gone, do not continually attempt to download them.
Do not directly link to ANY files on PRFI aside from URLs.
Try to visit the site during low-traffic hours. *yeah, I know. That really sucks.*
Try again when it says to. This could be as long as 24 hours.
